The Estevan Snowmobile Club is eagerly awaiting the start of a new season.

"We're waiting for snow," explained David Heier, President of the Estevan Snowmobile Club. "Once we get the snow, we'll go in earnest to get all the signs up. Every intersection has to have a stop sign and a stop ahead. And every 10th of a mile has to have a stake in the field so we put up several thousand stakes. We usually can get the trails in in a couple of weeks. And after that, it's maintenance and a lot of grooming."

"If we get a lot of snow, some of the stakes have to be lifted and some of the stop signs."

"When we're ready to do it, we usually put out a call for volunteers and Estevan treats us real well and a lot of people show up and help us."

"The trail that we groom all the way from Outram all the way to Arcola, Lampman and Forget and Benson and of course, into Estevan, the vast majority of the trail is going to stay the same. We had some drilling activity in the southwest so we had to make some changes to accommodate that."

While they are waiting for the snow, they are making repairs to their groomer.

"We're putting new tracks on it. We spent approximately $25,000 to repair that."

They are also busy making signs and preparing the shelters with new firewood.

He added that they are looking forward to the Prairie Women on Sleds event on February 9th which raises money for breast cancer.

Next meeting is on December 5 at 7:30 at the Elks Hall.
