If you've ever wanted to try out a martial art but were too intimidated to try, the Estevan Taekwon-do is hosting an open house on Saturday, Sept 16 from 1-3 at the gym in Spruce Ridge School.

Trinda Jocelyn, a black belt and one of the instructors at the club, explains that this is an informal event where people can come and see what taekwon-do is all about.

"They can see a mock mini-class that we're going to show them and they're going to go through different stations and try out different aspects of Taekwon-do, like self defense techniques, we'll do some shield work and that sort of stuff as well."

"We get asked all the time about Taekwon-do and what the benefits are and what it's like so we thought it would be a good opportunity to for people to come out and try a martial art, specifically, Taekwon-do in a non-committal approach. Where you don't have to come to class and with a bunch of people who have never done it as well so everyone is in the same boat."

The event is free and open to anyone aged 8 and older.

"We've had people start Taekwon-do at eight years old, we've had people start Taekwon-do at 45-50 years old. You don't have to be at any special level of ability to come and join and try it out. You can come and work away at your own pace."
