The Estevan Taekwondo continues to break boards and compete at some of the highest levels in our country. This time around some of the students are preparing to head off to Toronto tomorrow morning.

Don Dechief Senior Instructor 6th Degree Black Belt with the Estevan Taekwondo club, "This weekend we have a tournament in Toronto coming up the Global Taekwondo National Championship, that is being held by our Master entity of Canada president. So that's a really exciting one, we have been training really hard for it, with an extra 2 days a week for the last month and a half. So yeah we are prepared and are ready for that one. There will be 10 competitors and 2 instructors/coaches, so that will be coaches Mr. Wayne Brown and myself."

"We have a couple of tournaments coming up, we have one coming up April 27th that's a provincial tournament in Saskatoon, so preparations are going to be going on for that. We probably have about 30 students going to that one. Of course, we have testing coming up at the end of May, so we have lots going on. And we are also preparing for the World Championships and that comes up in 2020 in July, and those preparations are still being made. So a lot of prep for that tournament as its the global taekwondo championships 30th anniversary so we want to make sure we are there for it."

Dechief goes on to add, that they cannot attend these tournaments without sponsorship and fundraising efforts of the community. If you are interested in sponsoring and helping with one of the tournaments you can contact the Estevan Taekwondo club.

"The big one is Bulgaria, we still have to work out the details for flights and hotels, but that will be quite the undertaking. Once this tournament is done and the Saskatoon one, we will be working on sponsorship and fundraising as well." Dechief goes on to share, "How many students we will be able to take depends on that sponsorship, and qualifications, as there is quite a bit of process that goes on behind it. And hopefully we will have quite a few people going there to be a part of the Canada team, we will join up with other Canadian teams from Saskatoon, Toronto, and other places also."
