The 2018 SaskTel Tankard kicked off their celebrations on Saturday with a party at the Curling Club.

"We had a cool curling tournament which went over very well," explained Leah Moriarty, co-chair of the organizing committee. "We gave away event passes to the winners of the singles and doubles tournament. We had some door prizes. Just a general fun night of curling."

"Having the Tankard Kick-off on the weekend brings it all into reality that it's close now. We're starting to get into the fine details. Getting in food vendors, our entertainment so it's getting exciting."

She mentioned that the ice maker who will be responsible for the ice conditions will be coming in from Regina.

"You have to have a certain accreditation to be able to do the ice. He'll start prepping the ice starting on Friday before the event and get it all ready and then Wednesday, they'll be good to go for all the player that are here."

She also mentioned that everyone on the committee is very grateful for all the support that they have received form different local businesses in the area.

"We are very fortunate to be in a community that is so giving to the event that we are having here. We're very, very lucky."

She added that they are still on the look out for volunteers and anyone interested can contact the Curling Club at (306) 634-3391.

"It's going to take a lot of people to make it a success so we're looking for everyone to help out."
