The Estevan Westmoreland Bruins got their home schedule off on the right foot on Saturday afternoon, bouncing back from an opening season loss to beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-3.

Carson Birnie gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead with Emmett McCarthy and Colton Pushie adding the helpers, while just minutes later Jordan Marcotte would make it 2-0 Bruins with an unassisted goal. With just over five minutes remaining in the period, Shaun Von Sprecken would score for the Bruins on a pass from Jordan Marcotte to go up 3-0. Liam Fitzpatrick would score on the power play for Moose Jaw to close out the period with a 3-1 lead for Estevan.

Just as he did in the first, Carson Birnie extended the Bruins lead to start the second period with an unassisted short handed goal. Less than six minutes later, Birnie would complete the hat trick on another unassisted goal to give the Bruins a 5-1 lead heading into the third period.

Tate Kasick would score to stretch the Bruins lead to 6-1 with assists coming from Carson Birnie and Emmett McCarthy. Ty Pratte and Liam Fitzpatrick would cut into the Bruins lead to make it 6-3. Carson Birnie would continue his outstanding night, adding his fourth goal of the game and his fifth point to close out a 7-3 Bruins win on Saturday.

The Bruins continued their home stand on Sunday with a tough 10-4 loss to the Yorkton Canadian Western Bank Terriers.

Jaxon Sperling, Samuel Cristo and Grady Hoffman would give the Terriers a 3-0 lead to open the first period. Jordan Marcotte would score for the Bruins on the power play with two seconds remaining to close the gap to 3-1 after one.

The Bruins would get off to a quick start in the second period as Emmett McCarthy would get on the board with a feed from Carson Birnie to cut Yorktons lead to 3-2. Samuel Cristo and Tylan Henrikson would add goals for the Terriers just 39 seconds apart, giving Yorkton a three goal lead. Carson Birnie would score his fifth goal of the season, this time an unassisted marker on the power play. Ty Hoste would respond with a goal of his own to cut the Terriers lead to 5-4 midway through the second period with Kersey Hollingshead adding the lone assist. Thomas Hauber and Ryder Hildebrandt would score a pair of power play goals for Yorkton pushing their lead to 7-4, before getting one more from Shayden Duliak to close out the period with an 8-4 lead.

Tylan Henrikson and Thomas Hauber would seal the deal for Yorkton in the third period, giving the Terriers the 10-4 win over the Bruins.

The Westmoreland Bruins will continue their home stand on October 28th and 29th against the Weyburn Youngfellow Wings at Affinity Place.
