"Let's Rock Estevan" was the theme at Thursday's press conference that was held by the Estevan Curling Club to reveal the names of those who would co-chair the organization of the 2018 Tankard event.

Following on the heels of the successful Saskatchewan Summer Games and Western Canada Cup, the 2018 Men's Provincial Curling Championships is to be held in the Energy City from January 31st to February 5th of next year. 16 teams will battle for the position and prestige of top curlers in Saskatchewan. The winner will then go on to represent the province at the Tim Hortons national brier, being held in Regina.

"We are extremely excited for the City of Estevan to be hosting another significant sporting event," said Helen Fornwald, who was one of the two named as the new co-chair, during the presentation.

"It's been 23 years since Estevan hosted a men's curling event of this nature, so it's long overdue to bring the Tankard back to our city."

"The event will be showcasing Affinity Place, with 14 draws over those dates, to determine the champion," added Leah Moriarty, the other freshly named co-chair for the event.

"The arena will be transformed from a hockey and figure-skating ice surface, to the very best curling ice conditions, with 4 sheets being center stage in less than one week."

It was also announced that 100 volunteers would be needed to assist with the occasion.

"The people we have right now are basically club members, and there's about 40 who have signed up as general volunteers. We are still looking for a couple of committee heads to front those, and to get everybody on board for next year," noted Moriarty.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering can contact the curling club, or the co-chairs themselves.

"You don't have to be a curler or know anything about curling to help out, and that's the best part of this," expressed Fornwald.

As well as the main activities happening at the rink, there will be entertainment, including live bands, open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays in the Wylie Mitchell building, being called the "Patch" for the event. Live streaming of the games will be available there as well.

The committee next meets on March 6th.
