The leaders of the respective divisions are set, now they have to defend their position to solidify a class crown on Saturday, championship night at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

New to the Estevan Motor Speedway in 2018 was the Sport Mods, with a pair of names finding their way to the forefront. Robby Rosselli of Minot, ND was practically unbeatable all season long, and currently holds a 32 point lead over Lampman's Rylan Raynard. Considering that Raynard is a rookie to the Sport Mod division, his second place position is rather noteworthy.

"This first season has been quite a challege so far, but it's getting better with every race, just trying to figure out the car and whatnot. It's been getting better throughout the year," he said, adding that it 'feels pretty good' to have had this amount of success in his rookie run, "Starting out the year, I thought I was going to be at the bottom in points, but I guess not."

It's all uphill from here, however, as he as to climb 32 points to get past the undefeated Rosselli.

"Try and drive better than he does," is Raynard's answer, "But, he's a really good driver and he knows what he is doing. He's got a lot more experience than I do, so I'm sure it's going to be a challenge to try and get ahead of him and beat him."

"My drivng style and his, I've noticed is not really the same, so I'm thinking if I maybe just drive the car a little harder I can maybe, maybe, get him. But, like I said, he's pretty good."

Meanwhile, Rosselli will just aim to have another successful night on the dirt, and the points cushion gives him a bit of room to do just that.

"I like to be consistent, week in and week out. On Saturday, we just basically have to take the green flag and we should have that championship sealed up," he said.

Ahead of the championship night, Lampman's Leevi Runge is set to take the Hobby Stock division, currently with a comfortable 19 point lead over second place Blake Penna of Estevan.

"We've been going over the car for the last couple weeks, since the last race, making sure everything will be good for our last race. Hopefully we can keep out nose clean throughout the night and pick up another championship," Runge expressed.

Despite not winning a single feature this year, Estevan's Chris Hortness has kept his racing style clean and conservative, and it's paying off. He has a 19 point gap between himself and Weyburn's Tyler Wagner in the IMCA Modifieds.

Hortness wasn't really intending to compete this year, but a phone call from car owner Rocky Weinrauch changed that, and he took over the wheel from last year's Modifieds champ, Joey Galloway.

"I've just run consistently up front all year. It doesn't always take a win to win the championship," he shared, noting that Galloway never won a feature in his successful year either.

Jeremy Swanson goes by the moniker, 'The Mayor', around the track and a look at the standings shows why. Heading into the final race, he holds a narrow two point lead over Cody Nelson of Kenmare, ND in the IMCA Stocks.

Young Ryder Raynard has had four feature wins this year, and he holds a slim 2 point advantage over Jesse Gibson, who himself can be a tough driver to beat in the Slingshots.

Championship night gates open at five, and the green flag drops at seven at the Estevan Motor Speedway.
