Lampman Hobby Stock driver Riley Raynard came oh-so-close to racing in the main event of the Fall Nationals in Kansas over the long weekend.

"It could've been a little better. The first night there, there was two features that make it in and we were only in one, so I started 15th in that and actually ended up 7th in that, it was top six to qualify for the A feature on Saturday night...so I had to go into the last chance qualifier, and I ended up getting third out of that, and it was top six to advance."

However, after he pulled off the track, he found out that a car malfunction had disqualified him from advancing.

"It's basically called the MSD box. It's like a chip, it makes the car rev out at a certain limit...it wasn't working, it wasn't cutting in when it was supposed to be cutting in, so that was unfortunate," explained the young driver.

"It was one of the first (equipment) DQ's (disqualification) of my career, and it comes at the wrong time. That's just the way it goes, I guess."

He'll make some modifications on the car, and have it ready to go again next year, although he's also looking at his options to move to another racing class.
