Estevan's Brent Gedak will have to wait until he has home ice advantage in 2018 for his next Brier opportunity.

Gedak's rink out of the Estevan Curling Club were knocked out of the 2017 men's provincial curling championships on Saturday morning in Tisdale.

Saskatoon's Bruce Korte defeated Estevan's Gedak 7-5 on Saturday morning to eliminate the local club.

The 2017 Tankard began on Wednesday afternoon with 16 teams from across the province vying to become Saskatchewan's representative at the 2017 Brier in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The National men's curling championships begin on March 4th.

The southeast has been represented by Brent Gedak and his foursome out of the Estevan Curling Club. The team includes Gedak (Skip), Clint Dieno (Third), Derek Owens (Second), and Shawn Meyer (Lead).

Gedak was on the ice right away in Draw One, losing the opener 5-3 to Kerrobert's Brad Heidt. The Tankard tournament format is a triple-knockout (3 losses) until the playoff round.

Gedak would bounce back with three straight wins (9-5 over Lashburn's Ryan Armstrong, 7-2 over Fox Valley's Ryan Deis and 6-4 over Saskatoon's Dale Craig).

However, that's when the streak would end. In extra ends, Saskatoon's Kody Hartung defeated Gedak 7-6 with Hartung scoring a single in the 11th end after Gedak forced extra's with a single in the 10th.

That sent Gedak into the C-qualifier pool for a 9:00 meeting with Saskatoon's Bruce Korte. Gedak trailed 6-3 heading into the 9th end when the Estevan rink scored two to make it 6-5. Gedak would need to steal in the 10th to continue the game, but was unable to and Korte added a single to make the final 7-5.

The Tankard will continue until Sunday afternoon when Saskatchewan's champion will be crowned. Saskatoon's Steve Laycock has won the Tankard for the past three years.
