The top men's curling rinks in Saskatchewan have gathered in Tisdale for their shot at a spot in the 2017 Brier being held this year in St. John's, Newfoundland.

The 2017 SaskTel Tankard is underway from Tisdale as the first draws were played on Wednesday afternoon. The men's provincial curling championship carries on until Sunday.

The southeast is represented by Brent Gedak and his foursome out of the Estevan Curling Club. The team includes Gedak (Skip), Clint Dieno (Third), Derek Owens (Second), and Shawn Meyer (Lead).

Gedak played his first game of the tournament on Wednesday afternoon, taking on Kerrobert's Brad Heidt.

The Estevan rink was in control late, scoring a single in the 8th end to go up 3-2. However, Heidt was able to score a double in the 9th end to take a 4-3 lead.

Gedak still had an opportunity to at least force extra ends with the hammer in the 10th. However, Heidt ended up stealing one to defeat Gedak 5-3 in Draw One.

On day two, Gedak will look to bounce back in Draw Four on Thursday afternoon. Gedak takes on Lashburn's Ryan Armstrong at 3:30.

If Gedak wins, he will play at 7:30pm on Thursday night. If Gedak loses, he will face elimination at 8:00am on Friday morning.
