The Estevan Golden Eels once again left their opponents in their wake, as they took part in the Southern Saskatchewan Speed Swimming Semi-Finals in Gravelbourg on Saturday.

Their finish in semifinals determines their qualification for the provincial competition. One must finish in the top six of their event to pass the bar. 42 Estevan swimmers qualified for the provincials, which will be held in Estevan July 28th.

"We do have two Eels that did break records this past weekend, Jordyn Tarnes and Alianna Young. They're unofficial right now until Swim Sask verifies them...but we have a lot of strong swimmers right now," stated Melanie Dzeryck.

The Eels also brought home the High Point Club award with a total of 685 points, way ahead of the second place Weyburn Silver Seals.

Estevan now has their sights set on winning their 5th provincial championship in a row.

"This week, the coaches are really going be focusing just on refining a little bit of technique, but not changing anything, just practicing what they know and getting psychologically ready. They'll try and get them to not be nervous. It's going to be a little easier this year, because provincials are here. They know the pool, they know how it feels," Dzeryck added.
