Local Roller Derby athletes were on a roll in the Bienfait Memorial Arena over the weekend as the Estevan Junior Coaler Rollers held their home tournament.

The senior players took part in three games on Saturday, and though they didn't take a victory, they showed strong determination to the end. The scores were 288-233 to a Saskatoon/Brandon combo, 270-152 to Regina, and 335-182 to Calgary.

"The teams that we played against all had a skater from Team Canada, so the best in our country. We knew going into it that we were going to have some pretty tough skaters to go up against. We held our own, and we played with ten skaters and they fought for all three games, and they played really well," said Head Coach Lorelei Lachambre.

The juniors were in action for one game on Saturday and the second on Sunday. They played Saskatoon twice, winning both 273-270 and 340-248.

"We have really improved as a team with being stronger, physically stronger on the track. They were taking and giving hits right till the last whistle. I'm most impressed with our physical toughness and our mental toughness, that we hung in there."

The Coalers' next match is in Regina on June 9th.
