A busy young Estevan Raiders team was in Odessa, Sk over the long weekend, partaking in the Juvenile Broomball Provincial Championships.

Despite putting their heart and soul into it, however, the boys were unable to sweep anything into the can and went 0-4 in their time there.

"The first game (on Friday), we kept up. The scored ended up being 4-1 for Debden (Speedballs). The boys were getting tired, it was a long, hard game and we took a couple penatlies that we maybe shouldn't have," shared Head Coach Rayce Stein, "In the second game, we lost 2-0 to Big River (Bulldogs). Just a lack of bodies really hurt us."

"In the third game (on Saturday), the boys played far beyond my expectations. They were right up in the face of the team that went to nationals last year (Bruno Axemen, who took silver this time around), and the score ended up being 1-0. I think they scored with about 7 or 8 minutes left in the second period."

"They kept up right toe to toe with them, it was a fantastic game. I don't even think either of us took a penalty, we were going at it so hard," he expressed.

"In the fourth game, the other team had a couple of lucky breaks, and a trickling ball got into the back of the net. We ended up losing 4-1."

"The boys, they put 110 percent into everything. By the time we got back to the hotel after the games, they were almost sleeping, they were so tired," Stein added.

Drew Saxon stepped up for the young Raiders to be their only goal scorer of the weekend, finding the back of the net twice.

"I was thoroughly impressed with his performance. I liked how he was able to keep his energy up, and just keep going, no matter if you're tired or not."

Stein also noted that they will be looking for new players next year, as many of the current boys will be moving on.
