A sunny Wednesday morning turned into a muggy afternoon, then rainshowers, then back to muggy again. Regardless, ECS track and field athletes carried on in their District meet at the Comp with some outstanding results.

Of the 52 from Estevan that competed, 26 move on to provincials in Prince Albert, with Tatiana Dutka and Morgan Fichter also winning the top athlete awards.

Dutka also took top in quad, participating in shot put, 100 meter dash, long jump and the 800 meter, qualifying her to move on in her final year of high school.

"For me, it means that you're a true athlete. I like competing against the best athletes in the best province, knowing that I am going up against the best," she said, "I'm excited for new competition, because I've been going up against the same people, so I'm excited to be in the provincial environment again."

Carter Davenport strains for the finish line, well ahead of the pack during his 800.

Carter Davenport will also be making the trip north in his senior year, putting strong performances on the track in the 1500 and 800. Finishing the 800 in first with a time of 2:14.49, he expressed satisfaction with the run, considering the weather conditions.

"If the person really likes to run up the wind and run slower, it's better, but if there's a person that likes to hold their pace the whole time it's a little bit harder, because the wind works against them and messes up their times."

"It means a lot," he said of his qualifying, "Because now I can actually go to the provincials in my grade twelve year. That just shows that I can play other sports besides basketball, football, just something I can do on top of everything else."
