A local pool team is going to Vegas after strong play placed them as provincial champions, launching them to world competition level.

"From September until May we played in the Monday night league in Estevan, and in the last session at the end of May we were one of six teams to qualify to play in provincials in Moose Jaw," said Daniyale Lalonde, Team Captain of the Xtreme Scratchers.

"This was actually our third year. Some of us were new and this was their first time, but we've done it before. We weren't in it to win it, we were just going to have fun."

However, if you're there you might as well win the thing, and the Scratchers did so in fine style, beating a fellow Estevan team out for the top spot. This means that Lalonde and several family members, Kerry and Steven, and Jesse Berriault, Tess Daoust, John Wells, Amy Harker and Derek Lawrence will go up against the best of the best pool players on the globe.

"We've never been there before, so this is all kind of new to us. This is the largest pool tournament in the world, it'll be a new experience for all of us, so we don't really know what to expect."

They'll all be practicing hard in the months leading up to the week of August 13th to 18, looking to leave their mark on the world stage.
