For the first time ever, a curling team from Estevan will represent the province of Saskatchewan at the Travelers Curling Championship in Kingston, Ontario.

Starting on Monday, November 20th, the team consisting of Wade St.Onge, James Gordon, Ryan Hansen and Adam Himmelspeck will take to the sheets at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club.

To get to Kingston, the team had to win the 2017 Travelers Provincial Championship on home ice, and that's exactly what they did back in mid-March. During that championship Brent Gedak was filling in for Adam Himmelspeck and helped skip the team to victory. Now skipping the team is Wade St. Onge, a man from Estevan who has been curling for almost 30 years.

"All of us who have been curling, it's the goal we have had to curl in the national championship and to wear our provinces colors," explained St. Onge. "It's something we're really looking forward too and we're going there just wanting to enjoy every moment of it because it's a chance of a life time opportunity for us. We'll probably never have the opportunity again so we're just gonna go there and enjoy the experience."

(L-R) Brent Gedak, James Gordon, Wade St. Onge and Ryan Hansen following their win on home ice in March. Adam Himmelspeck will fill in for Brent Gedak in Kingston.

St. Onge also shared who will throw the stones.

"Adam is actually filling in as a spare for us. He was originally our skip, but then he couldn't make it to the play downs so we had Brent Gedak, and Brent can't make it to Nationals now. I'll be throwing third but I'll be skipping, James will throw the last stones, Ryan will be second and Adam will be lead."

Those interested in watching the team play in Kingston can join others at the Power Dodge Curling Centre. Two games will be live streamed upstairs at the club starting on Monday, November 20th at 6:30 p.m. against Quebec and on Wednesday, November 22nd at 9:00 a.m. against New Brunswick.
