When it comes to junior hockey in Estevan, most people in the area aren’t thinking too far away from the Estevan Bruins.

However, one local kid has made his way out of Estevan and is now a leader on one of the most dominant forces in the WHL this year.

Oxbow native Tanner Jeannot and his Moose Jaw Warriors have been off to a blazing start this year, racking up 75 points in 46 games, good for a ten point lead over every other team in the league.

“We’ve had a pretty good start, but we know there’s lots more work to be done and we’re just going to keep going with it.”

While originally skipped over in the bantam draft, Jeannot was later invited to the Warriors camp and put on a strong camp for the team where his hard work shined a light on his potential.

Since then, the 6'3 left winger has worked his way up to become one of the leaders on his team, leading the league in plus/minus rating at a +41, and a red letter ‘A’ on his sweater, a feeling he says is a little surreal.

“It feels really good, every year you just try getting better and better, and that’s what I’ve been trying to do, I’ve been working hard in the off season each and every year.”

“Hard work never goes unnoticed and it always pays off.”

Along with a top of the league rating in +/-, he also sits near the top in a few other stats. His 31 goals are good for 7th in the league, combine that with another 30 assists and you have the 11th leading scorer in the league, though Jeannot isn’t one to keep an eye on the stats.

“I just kinda go out there every night and do whatever I can to help the team win, whether it’s playing good defensively or scoring the goals. I don’t pay too much attention to that stuff.”

With only 26 games left on the schedule for the Warriors, Tanner Jeannot and his team are definitely a group that you’ll want to keep tabs on.
