It was a definite learning experience in a busy weekend for the Westmoreland Peewee Bruins.

Hosting a home tournament, Estevan held their own against their opponents, making their way to the B-final. There they were unable to hang on and fell 7-0 against the Weyburn Red Wings. However, head coach Kris Hollingshead was pleased with his team's effort throughout the three days.

"We had an expectation of coming out .500. We had an injury on Saturday, one of our top players, so that hurt us a bit. But overall, we went two and two on the weekend, and I'm pretty impressed with the performance."

Despite the injury, the players rallied and finished that game victorious.

Looking into the regular season, Hollingshead said that a lot can be applied from the weekend's action.

"We've got a bunch of players that have never played together before, and we've got a lot of new faces, so we're trying to learn where everybody else is on the ice. One of the things we're going to focus on is getting the puck out of our own zone."

"We need to work on staying out of the box, and the easiest way to do that is if we have control of the puck. We've got to beat the other team to it, win those battles in the corner, so that we're not coming out on the defense side of it," he added.

"We're using this as a building block for our team, getting some playing experience so we can come out and win some regular season games."

Hollingshead also expressed that it was great to host the tournament at home.

"It's awesome. We enjoy hosting teams, we like playing at home and the kids are getting games in. That's what it's all about, getting these players on the ice."

"It was great to see all these teams come out. It was pretty competitive hockey, and it seemed that any game could have anybody's win," he concluded.
