It's been an extremely busy year for members of the Estevan Sharks Water Polo Club, and it continued for 18 Atom and Bantam members over the weekend in Calgary.

Taking part in the John Csiskos Alberta Open Water Polo tournament saw the Sharks join forces with their teammates from across Saskatchewan to take on teams from all over western Canada.

Of the five teams representing Saskatchewan at the tournament, four were able to bring home medals, which included the Under-14 Girls Green team getting gold along with the Under-14 Boys taking gold. The Under-14 Girls White Team and the Under-12 boys got bronze, while the Under-12 Girls placed 4th.

Melanie Dzeryk: Over the last six months 18 Atom and Bantam athletes from the Estevan Sharks have been making the weekly commitment of giving up their Friday nights and attending additional training. This 2 hour pool training takes place in Weyburn 3 times a month and in Estevan once a month and it is the elite Water Polo Sask Developmental Camp (DC) with Team Sask coaches from Regina. These athletes have also attended one weekend in Regina per month where they spend over 6-10 hours in the pool refining their techniques, building endurance and becoming the best water polo players they can be. These athletes range in age from 10 years old up to 14 and they have a love of water polo that can definitely be seen when they jump into the pool.
