Many of the Estevan Mermaids shined at the Diane Lemon Invitational Synchronized Swim meet this past weekend. This meet saw competitors from the Saskatoon Aqualenes, Lloydminster Border City Stingrays, North Battleford Waterdoves, Yorkton Aquabatix, Regina Synchro, Weyburn Synchro Star, Prince Albert Pikes and ourselves.

For Figures, individuals rotate in front of four judges executing 4 specific figures, one at a time. 10 and under, out of 31 competitors, Jordan Tarnes placed 13th with 49.91 points followed by Alianna Young in 18th place with 47.66

11 - 12 Figures had 44 competitors with Emily Tarnes placing 20th with 51.29, Laura Swirski 24th with 51.12, Kyra Driedger 31st with 50.43 and Jersey Hirkala 34th with 49.43.

In Novice, Annalise Weinrauch placed 3rd with 49.37, Katie Waldegger 5th with 48.97, Gracie Dzuba in 14th with 43.10 and Alandra Young in 15th with 41.20.

In the – 13 to 15 Provincial Stream Category Figures, out of 45 competitors, Mermaids took three of the top five spots. First was Hannah Mantei with an averaged mark of 57.54, 3rd was Nyla Dyck with 56.58 and 5th - Gemma Bittman with 55.79. 17 & 18 were Haley Copeland with 53.12 and Rebecca Duncan with 52.81. Caitlin Graham placed 29 with 50.62 and Jocelyn Gabrielle with 49.58.

In the 16 to 18 Figures, Marlie Weinrauch placed 5th with 58.56 and Maya Daoust 13th with 52.35.

Onto the Solo Competitions, Shannon Wanner received a score of 49.27 in Master Free Solo.

Age 13 - 15 category Provincial Stream Solos, Hannah Mantei took 1st with a Championship Mark of 113.97 and Haley Copeland placed sixth with a score of 106.42.

11 - 12 yr old Duets saw Jersey Hirkala, and Sierra Potoma, place 6th with a mark of 99.96. Age 13 - 15, Laura Swirski and Rebecca Duncan placed third with a championship mark of 102.86.

Last, but certainly not least, were all the team finals. In the age 11- 12, Estevan Mermaids had two teams competing. The team coached by Brenda Lyons placed fourth with a routine score of 50.66. The team coached by Shannon Wanner and Kelsey Potoma finished 8th with a routine score of 46.06.

Estevan Mermaids had one large Team in the 13 to 15-year-old category coached by Brenda Lyons which placed 2nd with their combined team figure marks at 54.67 and third for their routine with a mark of 53.43.

Of course none of this would be possible without our volunteer coaches, Head Coach Brenda Lyons, Brian Smith, Susan Swirski, Shannon Wanner, Kelsey Potoma and Mermaids volunteers. They work hard to ensure this sport is affordable in Estevan.
