A hat trick of thrilling games over the weekend has put the Estevan Midget Bruins in fifth place in the South Sask division of the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League.

Highway 39 rival Weyburn Wings came to town on Friday with the season series on the line for the Bruins. No score was had in the first period, with Tanner Stovin finding the back of the net to start the second. It was quickly tied up a moment later, however, while Baron Lawrence added one more to give Weyburn a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Brennen Stubel knotted the score several minutes into the third frame, and Estevan took over from there. Stovin added his second and third of the night to push the Bruins 4-2 over the Wings.

"I thought in the first two periods...we came out a little bit flat. But we had a couple things happen to kind of change the momentum in that game and it was nice to see us make a comeback. In the third period, I though we were good for a good 20 minutes there," said Head Coach Riley Hengen.

The Regina Rangers were the next guest to Affinity Place on Saturday, and this time it was a Black and Gold show from start to finish. Dylan Hull and Jared Fornwald scored unanswered in the first period, while Cale Adams and Kelby Widenmaier did the same in the second to give the Bruins a 4-0 lead heading into the third. Ethan Sparvier managed to solve Estevan's Morgan Wanner nearly halfway through the final frame, but Adams restored their four goal lead on a power play of their own for a 5-1 conquest.

On Sunday, the Bruins were unable to take a full two points to seal a six point weekend, however, they didn't walk away empty handed when Prairie Storm visited Affinity Place. This time, Prairie opened the scoring off the power play, followed Joey Meredith for Estevan on a power play of their own. The back and forth play continued in the second as the Storm took the lead off the stick of Zach Cain, before the game was tied once again by Meredith. Cain made it a one goal lead for the third time with ten minutes left to play in the middle frame, but this time it was Chase Gedak who scored the equalizer.

Hunter Lolacher stood tall for Prairie Storm and Zane Winter for Estevan in the third period, sending the game to overtime where ultimately, nothing was solved. The two teams parted ways stuck at 3-3.

"We almost got one late in overtime to win the game, which would have been nice, but five out of six points this weekend, we're pretty happy with that," expressed Hengen.

"We've had trouble coming back this year, so it was nice to see us tie it up. Everybody was up on the bench and getting at it. There was a lot of excitement. We had a couple chances at the end, and had a couple big penalty kills toward the end of that game which was huge for us just to give us a chance at overtime."

The Bruins sit at 8-5-1 on the year as they prepare to visit the undefeated Midget Swift Current Broncos to start December.
