It was all or nothing, in a variety of ways, for Estevan's minor football teams as they all took to the turf on Saturday during Football Day in Estevan.

Kicking things off was the Estevan Power Dodge Atom Cudas, with their opponent the Weyburn Ravens. It was almost no contest, as the final score of 24-0 for Estevan testified to the heart that they put in the game.

"Just about everything went well for us. It was extra special because we did shut them out, it was in front of our home crowd, and we had some of the older kids here to watch," said coach Kevin Mortensen.

"Both sides threw some pass plays in, and everything seemed to work on both sides of the ball. It was just a total team effort."

Next to the field was the Century 21 Peewee Chargers. At the end of the 4th quarter the scoreboard read 60-0 for the visiting team, the Weyburn Bantam Ravens.

"In some areas, such as our punting, things went quite well. We did have some good runs, but mental penalties brought it back. Defensively, we had a knock down near the end and placed some good pressure, but other than that there is a lot of things that we need to work on," coach Jason Bresciani noted.

"Continuing with defense and tackling is our major two focuses there. Offensively, we just need to open up a hole and block, get those guys running."

An Elecs receiver lights out for the end zone after nabbing his catch. He would take it all the way for the goal.

Following that, the ECS Elecs high school team took the field. Despite a solid   effort that included two interceptions, they too fell to their rivals, the Peacock   Tornadoes, 76-22.

"It took us awhile to get going, but eventually we had some success moving the football, both in the air and on the ground. Our defense started to make some   plays and force some turnovers," stated Head Coach Mark Schott.

"It's tough when you dig yourself a 30 or 40 point hole, but it was nice that our   guys continued to play hard, put up some points and have some successes   throughout the day."

Hunter Eagles, especially, proved invaluable in that skirmish.

"He's been a great player for us all year. He makes some big plays, has the   ability to read the defense, picks some holes and makes things happen out   there," Schott said.

Closing off the day was the Estevan Lions Club Bantam Oilers, facing the Moose Jaw Raiders. Once again it was a heart and soul effort, which included an Estevan touchdown drive within the last minute of play. It also turned out to be a rough one, as several players on both sides of the ball had to be assisted off the turf throughout the course of the game.

Coach Paul Duncan was pleased with the effort, and noted several players that had some stellar performance, including Benjamin Wagstaff.

"Our offense came out and really stepped up our game, they played really well. The O-line pushed bodies around and opened up holes for Ben, and he did a fantastic job running. That kid attacked the field like no tomorrow."

He also expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his quarterbacks that played, and said that overall he couldn't be happier with his offence.
