A new hockey season around the rinks of southeast Saskatchewan is ready to get underway for the Midget AA Apex Bruins.

After finishing last years regular season in first place with a record of 29-4-3 and losing to the Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers in the league final, the team will look to build on that great success. However, they will look to do the same with first year Head Coach Sean Riley.

"I was able to watch a few of the conditioning camps and the turn out was pretty positive in my eyes, but from what I have seen so far it looks pretty promising," the first year Head Coach shared.

"I don't know a lot about Estevan or the players yet which to me is a positive and a negative. It gives me a blank slate and I get to see everything from an unbiased view. From what I hear and what I've seen looking at the performance last year, the expectation is pretty high to repeat the same outcome."

Riley is focused on building relationships with the players and getting the Bruins to perform at the high level they competed at last season.

"I'm excited to take on this new role. There are nerves like every one else, it's a prestigious team and a town that is very proud of their hockey and how they perform. It's going to be a great experience no matter what happens, we're all going to have a good time."

"I'm looking forward to helping these kids improve as much as I can and building the teams trust. I'm hoping the great support from the town continues and every one is willing to give me a positive chance to show them what I can do and how dedicated I am to getting this team back to where they were," Riley concluded.

Tryouts get underway this weekend for the Apex Bruins and will see the club open the regular season up on the road in Yorkton against the Terriers on Saturday, October 7th.
