The train seemed to be headed back up the mountain for the Toronto Blue Jays on April 25th.

As the walked out of the first of three games against the St. Louis Cardinals with a 6-5 victory, hope began to build that the boys in blue could salvage the remains of the worst record seen in franchise history.

They went on the lose the next two games. However, things began to turn around.

They faced the Tampa Bay Rays for three games, and surprised the country when they took the series 2-1, losing 7-4 in the first nine innings, then took the rest by storm with scores of 4-1 and 3-1.

With an improved record and some confidence under their belts, they headed to New York to take on the Yankees. The series started off on a high note when they demolished the home team 7-1, but any hopes that a repeat performance of the last series would take place were quickly dashed, as they let the second and third games slip out of their gloves 11-5 and 8-6.

Toronto now has a 9-19 record to recover, and another downhill slide to halt, in order to regain the success so briefly enjoyed during the week. With a series win, albeit only one, in their hip pocket, they head to Tampa Bay to take on their frequent rivals, the Rays.

Was the short-lived winning streak simply an anomaly in a plummeting disaster? Or, is the extremely rough start to the season the birth pangs of something great?
