The Estevan Oilfield Technical Society’s (OTS) 60th annual open bonspiel resulted in plenty of action at the Power Dodge Curling Centre. over the weekend.

Devon Fornwald with the Estevan Curling Club, "We had 24 teams enter this year, which is pretty good considering the late spring break up. We are pretty much in line with last year's numbers so that's good. A lot of great curling over at the rink, a really good turn-out with fans watching."

Fornwald adds about their big milestone this year, "It's 60 years that they have been running the Oilmen's Bonspiel in Estevan, and you know it's changed a little bit over the years. It was a 64 team event when the oilfield was really strong around here, there used to be wait lists at a lot of these oilmen events. Its come down a bit, and the oilfield has changed a lot even in the past 10 years or so. But it's a great event, a good fundraiser for the OTS and a great event for the curling rink to host every year."

"We won't have totals as of yet, but the OTS uses the money raised for scholarships for people going into Oilfield engineering and a few other jobs like that. There a non-profit so its a good fundraiser to keep things like that going, so its nice to make money at these events to further along our scholarships."
