Standout defenceman Josh Rieger scored two goals in the final five minutes and the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins sent their fans home happy after an impressive 4-2 comeback victory over the Flin Flon Bombers.

In the final meeting of the year between the two teams, the two division leaders have had very different starts to 2017. The Bombers were (9-1-1) in the new year coming into Sunday's afternoon matchup while Estevan sported a (3-4-0) record.

The Bruins' would get a perfect start to the game, earning an early powerplay that they would quickly capitalize on. Jake Fletcher snapped his 15th of the season past the Bombers' Zach Robideux to give Estevan a 1-0 lead.

The Bruins would earn many powerplay opportunities in the opening period, but were unable to make Flin Flon pay despite having seven man advantages in the first period.

The Bombers tied the game at 1-1 halfway through the first as Connor Beebe beat Bruins' netminder Nathan Alalouf. That would be the score at the first intermission, with the Bruins outshooting Flin Flon 13-6.

The massive gap in powerplay time would be evened out in the second period, as Flin Flon would be given five man advantages but could not score on any of them. The score remained tied at 1-1 heading into the third period.

The Bombers would be given one more powerplay to start the final frame and would finally take advantage and grab their first lead of the night. Leading scorer Greyson Reitmeier scored his 23rd of the year to put Flin Flon ahead 2-1.

An intense back-and-forth continued for the third period as both teams would look to get the all important next goal. It wouldn't come until the final 5:33 of the game, when the Bruins' executed a perfect breakout to tie the game.

Zach Goberis fired a cross-ice pass in the neutral zone to Jayden Davis who went around his defender and saw Rieger driving towards the net. Davis hit Rieger with a perfect pass that the Bruins' defenceman deflected through the five-hole of Robideux to tie the game.

Overtime seemed inevitable. But with 1:39 remaining, the Bruins' would break the deadlock.

Jason Miller's pass to the point bounced off the boards and onto Rieger's stick. Rieger quickly turned a fired a shot towards the goal which found a way through a screened Robideux and into the back of the net for the 3-2 Bruins' lead.

Flin Flon pulled the goalie for the extra attacker in the final minute, but were unable to get a quality shot off on Alalouf. With ten seconds remaining, Matt McNeil iced the game with an empty-netter for the 4-2 final.

The Bruins' took three of four games over Flin Flon this season, and now trail the Bombers by ten points for second overall in the SJHL standings. Estevan has four games in hand on Flin Flon.

- Josh Rieger (2G) Jake Fletcher (1G, 1A), Jason Miller (2A), and Scott (2A) had multi-point games for Estevan.

- Each team finished 1/7 on the powerplay and the final shots were even at 34-34.

The Bruins wrap up their six-game homestand on Tuesday night when they host the Yorkton Terriers.
