The second half of the Saskatchewan Winter Games kicked off Thursday in North Battleford. A number of new competitions started, across a wide assortment of sports.

Badminton

Team South East started the round-robin of the mixed doubles badminton competition off going 0-2. They fell 7-2 to South West and 8-1 to Regina. They finish up the round robin Friday against Rivers West.

Bowling

In the female team bowling competition, Team South East is 2-1 after the first day. The team is made up of Laci Hope Glennie, Rayna Stadnick and Hudson Walker from Carnduff, along with Alisa Paul from Carievale, and Weyburn’s Chanel Lanz-McIntyre. They dropped their first game 3-0 to Regina, before bouncing back and picking up wins over South West and Lakeland.

In the male team bowling games, Team South East finished the day 1-2. They topped Regina in the first game of the day, before losing to South West and Lakeland. The team is comprised of Tyson Andrews, Jaxon Cook, AJ Donald and Kelsey William Petersen from Weyburn, along with Oxbow’s Caden Trafford.

In the Special Olympics Bowling team competition, South East finished the first day going 3-1. They picked up wins over Prairie Central, Saskatoon and Regina. The lone loss was to Team North. The team is made up of David Lee Carr, Brendan Gall, Aerial Roberts and Brenda Zaharia, who are all from Weyburn.

Curling

The South East, represented by Emily Haupstein’s rink from Weyburn, finished the first day of the curling competition with a record of 1-1. They picked up a 5-4 win over Rivers West in the first draw of the day but fell 5-4 to South West in the evening draw. They close out the round robin on Friday. The rink includes Abbey Johnson, Shayla Moore and Emma Wiens.

Figure Skating

In the female free-skate, Marissa Smith from Rocanville finished in 9th, while Tennessee Goodbrand was 11th in the competition.

Hockey

The female hockey competition started Thursday, and Team South East picked up two decisive wins in the round robin. They picked up a 12-2 win over Lakeland in their first game of the day and followed it up with an 8-3 victory over Parkland Valley. They close out the round robin against Saskatoon Friday.

Snowboarding

Gainsborough’s Jeremy Meredith finished 15th in the qualification run for the male under 14 slopestyle Thursday, with a score of 24.7. He didn’t advance to the finals.

In the male under 17 slopestyle, White City’s Jacob Sebastian barely missed out on qualifying for the finals, with a preliminary run of 49.3. Cole MacLennan-Day wrapped up the competition with a qualification score of 34.0.

Table Tennis

In the cadet female team competition, South East finished the opening day with a record of 1-1. They dropped their game to Regina but beat Saskatoon. They will play in the placement round today.

For the cadet male team competition, there were two entrants form the South East. Team A finished the round robin with a record of 0-2, while Team B went 1-2. They both compete in the placement round Friday

Team South East with two entrants in the junior female team competition as well. The team competing in Pool A wrapped up the day with a record of 2-1. In Pool B, the other team closed out the round robin 2-0. They now play in the placement round Friday.

In the junior male team event, Team South East wrapped up with a record of 2-1 in the round robin. They will play in the placement round Friday.

In the cadet female singles, there are three athletes from the South East competing. Krystal Prettyshield from Carry The Kettle finished the round robin with a record of 2-1. Autumn Delorme Kaye from Carry The Kettle went 1-1 in the round robin as well.

Five athletes from South East competing in the cadet male singles tournament, one in each pool. Nick Rollinmud from Carry The Kettle finished 1-1 in Pool A, while Silas Rollinmud, also from Carry The Kettle, closed out the round robin with a record of 0-2 in Pool B. Cortez Rope from Carry The Kettle went 1-1 in the round robin in Pool C. Wray Jack, also representing Carry The Kettle, finished up the round robin going 1-1, and Seth Peters from Estevan was 0-2 in round robin play.
