Saturday was Football Day in Estevan. Proclaimed by Mayor Roy Ludwig earlier in the month, Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football Association was going for a touchdown in the area of support and awareness for the program, and a day of fun.

It's probably safe to say that they got those 6 points, and a two point convert to boot, as President Paul Duncan was quite pleased with the outcome.

"The community support was fantastic. I loved seeing the emergency services down here earlier with the fire department and police. Maybe next year we'll enlist the Estevan Flying Club and see if we can get a fly-over or something like that, that'd be kinda cool."

He expressed that it was important to recognize their organization and team sponsors, as well as those who helped out and supported the event. Penta Completions signed a five-year deal that will see 10,000 dollars go each year towards Estevan Minor Football. Meanwhile, in providing the refreshments for the crowd, Southern Plains Co-op raised around $1,400 for the group. A $10,000 donation was also received from Affinity Credit Union to the ECS Elecs.

Duncan also noted the support that exists for the younger players and age groups.

"As we're building for the future, it's nice to see the support for that. It was especially nice to see the Cudas come away with a victory. The Chargers played hard, they didn't walk away with a win, but that's okay. It's a stepping stone."

"As a president, I believe that it was a successful day for us, and that's all in the hard work of the board. It was a long day for the officials too, and I think they deserve a long round of applause for that as well," he concluded.
