Estevan Minor Football will be well represented south of the border next week during the 6th Annual Pigskin Classic.

The week-long international tournament from February 20th - 26th will feature seven teams from three countries, including the South Saskatchewan Selects football team. The Selects will be sending four teams down to Texas: 10-Under, 12-Under, 14-Under, and 16-Under.

Estevan athletes will be featured on three of the teams, with all but one player having already played in the Pigskin Classic in past years.

UNDER 12 - Lucas Rooks (WR), Chayton Fornwald (DB), Hayden Borhot (DB)

UNDER 14 - Hunter Eagles (LB), James Knibbs (DE)

UNDER 16 - Parker Lavoie (OL)

"We're heading down a few days early and we have a couple of practices before the games start," says Lucas Rooks, who will be playing wide receiver on the 12-under team. Rooks played in the tournament last year along with Estevan Bantam Oiler teammate Chayton Fornwald.

"Last year we only won the one game, so it'd be great to do a little better as a team this time," added Fornwald.

It won't be the first Pigskin Classic for both 14-under team members James Knibbs and Hunter Eagles, but it will be for the lone Estevan representitive on the 16-under team: Parker Lavoie.

"James made it last year and he saw that I was enjoying the sport, so he suggested I come up to Moose Jaw and try out this year," explained Lavoie. "Since I'd only been playing for a few years, I wanted to make sure I could handle it both physically and mentally."

"So I tried out for the team this year and was successful."

The South Sask. Selects, who practice out of Moose Jaw, won't be the only teams from Canada in the Lonestar State. Manitoba is also sending a Selects group to Texas to participate, the two Canadian programs will join United States teams from California, Virginia and Texas (Dallas and Alamo City). There will also be a program out of Monterey, Mexico sending teams to the Pigskin Classic.
