Despite not reaching their goal of a tournament win in Saskatoon over the weekend, the Midget AAA Southeast Twins definitely won off the field.

The Twins finished off their Midget Selects tournament schedule with a 2-3 record, which according to Head Coach Blaine Kovach, was a success.

"I thought it went pretty well, we got better every single game," Kovach said. "We were within one to two runs or leading at some point, one or two innings between all the games made the difference. The bats came alive, just a few things on the pitching end need to get a bit better."

Not only was the Midget Selects tournament an opportunity to gel on the diamond as a team, it was a chance for scouts to evaluate players for the Canada Cup roster.

"The Sask coaches are watching everyone, making decisions on players if they will make the Canada Cup initial roster. A lot of our young guys had a good weekend, their bats were on fire so they'll get a good look. One good weekend and you could get a look for the rest of the season."

"It's nice to get away to a city like that, the guys did a movie the one night, it's a good time with a lot of bonding. I believe the rookies got a hair cut," Kovach said with a chuckle. "That's always good fun for them as well."

The Twins will now prepare for a busy weekend, having the Saskatoon Giants in town for a double-header.

"We'll be getting into some light pitching work, some infield stuff. I was really impressed with our bats, it made a big difference over the weekend."

"They're a young team like us, after seeing the tournament it seems like everyone is in the exact same boat. It will be a pretty even league in my opinion, having the Giants in town we have a good chance at taking two wins."
