The Bantam AAA Southeast A's will be off and running this weekend into a new season of baseball in the Regina League.

After a strong finish to last year that saw them come within two runs of winning the Provincial championship, the A's will look to replicate that late season success into this year.

"We did finish off quite well last season," said A's Head Coach, Trent Dorrance. "With eight returning kids from last year we're looking strong, fundamentally the kids are doing the right things off the bat."

This years edition of the A's features bantams from all over south east Saskatchewan, including Whitewood, Kipling, Oxbow, Carnduff, Alameda, Carlyle and Estevan. Having quite a few practices under their belts already, Dorrance says it hasn't taken much time for the team to gel together.

"A lot of team bonding with our practices, a lot of them already have played hockey together or baseball in the past. There's a lot of kids coming up, looking toward the future it looks great, there's a lot of good ball players in this corner of the province."

The A's will also enjoy playing a handful of games under the lights in Alameda this summer, after they had them installed last fall.

"So far they look great, four of our home double-headers will be under the lights, there will be some great nights to watch some ball. The kids are excited for it."

The goal for Dorrance and his staff is to build a solid base of ball players in the south east, with those interested in putting in the work and furthering their baseball careers having the best opportunity to do so.

"Long term goals with the kids, some of the keys are just getting more kids playing better ball in the south east. Go on to midget AAA and further their careers after that," Dorrance concluded.
