It was quite an experience for several boys from the southeast, who were picked up by other teams to compete in the Western Canada Baseball Championships.

Southeast Twins players Tyren Dorrance and Ty Nikolejsin were both selected by the North West Prairie Pirates to temporarily don the new colors. The Pirates split their games and just missed out on the tournament playoffs.

"We lost a heartbreaker of a game to get eliminated, but other than that it was a really good experience, a great group of guys," said Dorrance afterwards, with Nikolejsin adding, "A couple games didn't go our way, but there's nothing you can do about that."

Both boys noted that, once they got to know their new teammates, they gelled quite quickly with those who had been opponents all year long.

They also each put their work in and left their mark in the tournament, both recording highlight moments.

"In the first game, we beat the home team, and I got Player of the Game because I had a big RBI to start the game off and get us an early lead," Dorrance shared. Nikolejsin, meanwhile, nailed a walk-off homer to end the final match.

"I went up there (to the plate) just hoping to get one base, and I guess things went our way and we won the game,"

Both boys return to the Twins for the next season, Dorrance with one and Nikolejsin two years, and each express plans to bring leadership and experience to their team.

Kaiden Lyons of Kipling, playing for the Southeast A's, was picked up by the Sask Five Giants for the Bantam U15 division, where they lost in the semifinal.
