Special Olympics for the kids are set to become a reality in the new year. The Special Olympics Saskatchewan organization will be bringing their Active Start and Fundamentals programs to the Energy City, and all they need are people willing to dedicate the time.

"We are scheduled to start our programming...on January 4th, and they will run for 12 weeks," explained Kandyce Meili.

"We're very fortunate to be able to have our (Volunteer) Coaching training here in Estevan on Sunday, December 16th. Regularly they just hold the training in Regina but they're coming down to Estevan."

She added that there's no cost for the training, and they're looking for as many people as possible to fill positions.

"To be a coach, you don't have to have anything. All the training is provided, so it's just someone that loves to be with kids and help out."

Those looking to be volunteers will receive lessons in Special Olympics, Respect in Sports, and Making Ethical Decisions. They will have to provide a criminal record check as well.

The training will take place on Sunday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the Sacred Heart school in Estevan.
