The Estevan Motor Speedway is just over one week away from opening night on Saturday, May, 5.

Due to a late start to spring, the Annual TestNTune has been cancelled, but according to Speedway President, Byron Fichter and their track prep crew, the season will get underway as scheduled.

"The weather wasn't super helpful, we're going to try and work hard to get everything in order because we really want to be racing on opening night," Fichter said.

"We have a great track and a great facility, we're very fortunate to have that in Estevan. I'm excited to showcase our track this year, the prep that the team puts in we are very lucky to have that, we have really high expectations for this year."

A few additions to the schedule this year should wet the appetite of several different race fans, with a variety of classes set to hit the dirt in 2018.

"Adding the historic Sprint Car double header, the Dakota Classic Tour is always a hit, and adding the Sport Mod class is exciting, they are always super entertaining."

"The one other thing we added is Late Models on Friday, August 3rd. There is a ton of interest with drivers from Alberta and Montana for that, the three day swing in Estevan, Williston and Minot makes it worth while for guys to make the trip. I know Minot has confirmed Donny Schatz to race Late Models there, but I doubt he comes here, we'll have to wait and see," Fichter said.
