The Midget AAA Southeast Twins picked up a pair of wins Sunday afternoon, as they entertained the Swift Current 57’s for a doubleheader at Tom Laing Park in Weyburn. The two wins improve the season record to 3-11 for the Twins.

In the first game, the Twins came away with a 9-7 victory, after scoring eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Four of those runs in the seventh came from a double by Hudson Neuberger which turned into a walk-off, base-clearing, inside the park grand slam.

The stage was set for the dramatic comeback with Aiden Krafchuk and Thomas Husband reaching base to start off the inning. Jose Reyes then brought in both base runners with a double. The next batter, Ty Nikolejsin, then hit a single which cashed in Reyes. The Twins then loaded the bases, and Alex Kerr was walked, bringing home Nikolejsin. Then, Neuberger finished the comeback off.

On the mound, Burke Lyons went six innings, striking out four, which allowing three runs. Boston Walker finished the game off in the seventh and earned the win.

In the second game, the Twins ended up winning by the same score as the first, but not in as dramatic a fashion. This time, it was a big fourth inning which put the game out of reach, allowing the Twins to get their second win of the day.

After pitching the first game, Burke Lyons crushed a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth. The home run was the first of the season for Lyons. The runs were just four of seven scored in the inning.

It started off with Krafchuk, Smolinski and Boston Walker all reached base, then some pitching struggles for the 57’s helped the Twins bring runs across the plate.

Husband was walked with the bases loaded, allowing Krafchuk to come home. Then, a passed ball while Dahlyn Klassen was pitching cashed in Smolinski. A single by Klassen then allowed Walker to score.

The Twins added two more runs in the sixth inning, again while Lyons was batting, although he was not credited for the RBI’s as the runs were scored on errors by the catcher.

On the mound, Nikolejsin earned the win in the second game. He struck out eight in six innings while allowing four runs. Kerr finished the game on the mound, pitching just one inning.

The next action for the Twins is this coming weekend. They head to Saskatoon for a doubleheader against the D-Backs on Saturday. Sunday, they find themselves playing a doubleheader against the Northwest Pirates in Lloydminster.
