After the province's softball league canceled the year-end tournament, Estevan held an event between four teams, to help fill the gap.

The tournament featured two teams from Estevan, the Steelers, and the Rebels, while also having the Carlyle Cardinals and the Whitebear Treaty 4 teams.

The usual tournament would have included U12 and U16 leagues and featured the entire roster all playing in the same place.

Due to the tournament being put together on short notice, not as many teams were able to take part in the tournament in Estevan.

The organizer and coach of one of the Estevan teams Mike Keating says the weekend went great.

"Everything went amazing, better than I could hope. The weather was warm enough but cooled down in a few spots so we kept the kids hydrated and it wasn't too crazy hot, so that went really well," said Keating, "The kids had a blast, every game I looked at there were some really super close games and some amazing plays that happened this weekend."

"We played a round-robin, so everyone played everyone else once it worked out good, all the teams played three games that day. The Estevan Steelers ended up winning all three games for the championship, the Estevan rebels won two games out of three, same with Whitebear. The way it works, because the rebels beat Whitebear, they got second, Whitebear got third, and Carlyle came in fourth."

While this year's tournament was just in response to the usual one shutting down, Keating said that there's an opportunity to keep this tournament going next year.

"I think it might be something that I'd like to grow into a bigger tournament because we don't have any tournaments other than the year-end tournament," said Keating, "There's no reason we can't put together two tournaments together, the year-end tournament and the fun Estevan tournament. This year it went great, and maybe have some plans for next year, and having a tournament would be fantastic."

Keating thanked a few of the organizations that helped with the tournament - Estevan motors as the main sponsor, Estevan Engraving Trophy shop for the medals, and Pizza hut for setting up a booth, as well as other local restaurants that handed out coupons.
