Make it two in a row for the Estevan Tap House Wolves, as they pulled out a second straight Saskota Baseball League championship during the Harbourne Memorial Tournament over the weekend.

Placed in Pool B, the Wolves got things rolling with a 7-1 win over the Kenosee Cubs before shutting the Carnduff Astros out 7-0. A 10-2 loss to the Carlyle Cardinals then followed.

Meanwhile, the Redvers A's had clinched first in Pool A, and that was who Estevan faced upon reaching the semi finals. However, they found a 3-1 victory to launch them to the final.

There, they met the Oxbow Chiefs. The Chiefs got their weekend started with a 10-1 thumping of the Southeast Fireballs, then a 4-3 loss to the Redvers A's, before doubling the  Arcola Threshers 6-3.

The Carlyle Cardinals had secured first in the B Pool, thus matching them with Oxbow for the semi finals, who then found the win to take them to their date with the Wolves.

Ironically enough, it was the same matchup a year previously between Estevan and Oxbow, with the former coming out on top. Defense of the crown in the Wolves faced off with revenge for last year's loss in the Chiefs, but it would ultimately be the Wolves who would prevail. They took a 3-1 victory to secure their second Saskota title in a row.

"It was a great feeling on Sunday. It was another great, long season, we were pretty successful, but anything can happen on this weekend," said Wolves player Danny Ewen.

"There were four good teams standing, with Redvers, Carlyle and Oxbow. When we got that final out against Oxbow to beat them for the second straight year, the guys were jumping up and down and pretty happy to bring the trophy back to Estevan again."

He noted that it was a 'respectful rivalry' when the two teams met for the second final in a row.

"Last year it was both of us gunning for our first title in a long time, and this year it was the two best teams. They were the best team all season long, but we played well against them during the season and in the final. It could have gone either way, especially in that last inning. It was just us and Oxbow, having a lot of fun playing against each other, and luckily for us we came out on top again."

However, that's not the last the pair will see of each other this year, though it'll be a whole new ball game when they do. Both Oxbow and Carlyle will be in the same Tier as Estevan for Senior AA provincials along with several other teams. It all gets under way August 10-12.
