Yellow Grass Wheat Kings 2017-18 Season Preview

The 2016-17 season was nearly picture perfect for the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings, who were able to make their way to the Big 6 Championship seires in their inaugural season.

The Wheat Kings managed to make the league semi final after ousting the Carnduff Red Devils in game three double overtime, 8-7 to capture the quarter final win in three straight. During their semifinal match up with the Bienfait Coalers, the Wheat Kings were able to eliminate the perennial favorites in a triple overtime heart stopper, 4-3 on a goal from Corey Koski. Their story book season came to a close in four games at the hands of the Wawota Flyers, who were able to complete the repeat and sweep the Wheat Kings.

"It will be tough, we did have a good run last year," said Wheat Kings Head Coach Jim Onstad on trying to get back to the league finals. "Every year each team has turn over, it is a working league so we're going to have a few changes in some of our player personnel but we do have some other people coming out. It will be a situation to see if we can mesh the right people together and come out with a good team."

With the regular season just two weeks away, most teams in the league are starting to put together their rosters, and it's no different for the Wheat Kings.

"We're getting some skates going and seeing what we have in front of us. I think I can count four or five people that are out, but we have about the same coming in. I think we'll be strong up front again with some good offensive minded players. Just have to keep shoring up the back end to make sure we are solid all around."

"We have a good support system behind our team with the executive and the people from the board level that are doing a great job. We're looking forward to a good year."
