ParticipACTION 150 was a list of 150 sports and activities which Canadians were challenged to take part in during 2017.

"I accomplished 83 of those 150. The plan is in the next year to try and get the other 67," explained Dr Robert Kitchen, MP for Souris-Moose Mountain, took on the challenge said the year went well but took longer than expected.

Dr Kitchen took part in activities such as Soccer, Rugby, and surfing.

"How do you surf when you're from the prairies, that one ParticipACTION brought a surfing simulator to Ottawa and so I got a chance to get on that one."

"I think my favourite ones, the ones I had the most fun with were when I was doing things with constituents."

Dr Kitchen was invited by constituents to take part in activities in different communities.

He was invited to take part in Pickleball in Moosomin, Dodgeball in Estevan and was supposed to do Kayaking in Weyburn but was unable to get that date worked out but will try again this year.

One of more challenging activities on the list, for Dr Kitchen, is Quidditch.

"I understand there are Quidditch clubs in Regina, at the university. I am trying to figure out how I coordinate the somehow to get up there."

Dr Kitchen had to research Quidditch, the sport created by Harry Potter Series author, J.K Rowling.

"I'm not a Harry Potter person so I have never seen the movies or read the books so it will be quite interesting to see when we get that accomplished."

"As long as I don't wrap that broomstick around my neck I will be okay," quipped Dr Kitchen.

The purpose for ParticipACTION is to encourage Canadians to be more active and to exercise doing things you enjoy.

"One of my big goals is to get people involved, getting people out, getting people active."

Dr Kitchen said being active in these events helps Canadians socially and with physical health.

"It helps us with our young people developing leadership skills in participating in these events."

Dr Kitchen added Parliamentarians do a lot of meetings, a lot of sitting and a lot of them are not getting out.

"If we are going to ask people to do certain things we need to lead by example."
