It may be a small town, but the town of they've done a lot of work lately.

"We had a paving crew in here," Alan Schiestel, Town Forman in Alameda explains, "and we paved one block that was never done and we recapped a block, which was nice to get done."

"That was one of the big things on our list to keep up with that program."

"We're coming to the end of our big projects. We did drill two new wells this spring, in May. They turned out really good. We run seven wells and one of them last winter was letting some silt in. First thing this spring, we decided we'd replace that well and we decided to do two while we're at it and now we're in good shape."

He added that the development on the south side of the village has really picked up.

"We've planted grass and centre boulevards and planted some trees this spring and it's starting to look really good."

Alameda was a winner of Communities in Bloom in 2007.

He added that the rains have made everything lush and green, unlike last year when they had fire bans on so much of the spring.

However, the rains are not always a welcomed sight just like back in June when they were flooded.

"I've worked here, this is my 33rd year and I've never seen anything happen like what happened on the first of June. We've never, ever have had that problem. We've had some big rains but never water back up like that."

The fire department was called in to help pump water out of the community.
