With the hot weather quickly approaching, people should start pre-planning ways to battle the heat.

"The UV index and all of those concerns certainly are increasing as we get into the summer, as are heat concerns. We also have thunderstorms, severe thunderstorms and sometimes we have large low pressure systems that go through the area and give us tremendous amounts of rain," stated Natalie Hazel with Environment Canada.

"If you haven't done so already, it would be a really good time to go over your emergency plans and check your emergency kits to make sure that everything in it is still good to go, that nothing has expired."

"If you don't have an emergency plan or an emergency kit, there are instructions on getprepaired.gc.cagetprepaired.gc.ca. Te emergency kit description is very clear, it's done by a check list. You probably already own most of the things that would normally go in an emergency kit, they just might not have it all in one space," shared Natalie.

"You should also have an emergency kit for your car. I know we've talked a little bit about that in the winter but it's useful in the summer as well."

"If you haven't already now, it would also be a good time to check your home and your property. As we get into the next season, we've had a number of windstorms over the fall, early winter and into the spring. Now would be the time to check all of the shingles on your roof, check the trees on your property, make sure that everything is in good order so that you're reducing your risk of having things fall on you as we get into the severe weather."

"Be prepared in advanced, knowing that everything is as good as it's going to get, before you need it. That's a good time to do that."
