The Town of Bienfait recently held their latest regular council meeting, the highlight of which included a update on their upcoming wastewater infrastructure upgrades.

"It looks like a lot of things are moving along fairly well on schedule, and I think the people can look to see earthwork starting in the spring," shared Mayor Paul Carrol.

"It's pretty cold right about this time of year, so we won't be wasting any money trying to do any of that now."

He added that a few other projects are ongoing in the community, including the restoration of their train. They are fundraising and looking for ideas for that, as well as upgrades to their museum.

"The town only has a limited budget, so we're looking for outside sources to step up and possibly give us some ideas and some help in those directions."

Now that snow is on the ground, the Town has also been looking at their snow removal operations, making sure that they are ready to go.

"We have an annual policy, and I think that was shown very well last year in the heavy snowfall. Our people did a really job. We got good access on most of our arteries right away, then followed up snow removal on the rest of the streets shortly thereafter," Carrol noted.

"We're very fortunate in that we haven't had to use contractors much in the last little while. However, we don't rule that out. If necessary, we will bring in contractors to help out with snow removal when required."

Donations from generous businesses and such in the community have helped out as well.

He also expressed anticipation for the day when the Highway 39 twinning work is completed.

"It's certainly very exciting, and good for the people in the area. Transportation in that corridor will be a lot safer for anybody that has to travel it on a regular basis. You can rest assured that there's not nearly as many locations where an accident or something could happen."
