On July 9th officers at the Torquay border Crossing which is South West of Estevan seized two loaded hand guns from a traveler.

"He was visiting Canada for the first time, as a result he was arrested and issued a $2,000 penalty and refused entry for committing an offence also in that seizure, four over capacity magazines were seized," explained Luke Reimer the Communications Officer with the Canadian Border Services Agency.

"I think this case just goes to show diligence of officers, it doesn't matter at which port of entry whether it's North Portal which is a large port of entry or a small port such as Torquay. Our officers are diligent and always looking out for contraband including high risk commodities like fire arms and they're there to protect Canadians and that's what this is about."

It's been a busy Summer for North Portal.

"They've processed almost 25,000 travelers last month and it's been busy this month as well. I think that some tips for travelers, especially local travelers who cross the border often, apply. We remind travelers to be mindful to keep crossing times such as on the weekends during afternoons and evenings and try to cross around those times in the morning if possible. Also to just remind travelers to have their travel document ready, know all the goods that you are bringing back into Canada, know your personal exemptions and have all your receipts ready and that way even if there is heavy traffic, that will allow officers to process traffic as fast as they can," he shared.
