A Business Summit hosted by the Estevan Chamber of Commerce tackled a number of subjects. Estevan's MLS, The Honourable Lori Carr, Minister of Highways and Infrastructure, was in attendance and spoke on the role of government in business, the role highways play and answered questions regarding the carbon tax.

"This Business Summit is so important for our community," she shared. "As you look around the room, you see business owners who are seasoned and older and then you see business owners that are just starting out and some that are in the middle of their journey. It's so encouraging for our area."

She noted a number of significant projects in the area.

"We are finishing two sets of passing lanes south of Regina on Highway 6 and there's also going to be a section of about 5 kilometers that is going to be twinned that will be opened this winter. That's very exciting for us."

"Also this summer, we finished paving between Torquay and Outram and I'm happy to say next summer we're going to be doing between Torquay and Oungre."

She also answered a lot of questions about the carbon tax and other provinces joining in the fight with the federal government.

"I think for the longest time Saskatchewan was a lone wolf on the carbon tax theme and slowly but surely the winds of change are happening across the country of Canada. Now, as we work together to fight the carbon tax, hopefully, the Liberal government will see the error of their ways and change their mind on that. It's an uphill battle that we're all fighting but there's strength in numbers, that's absolutely true."

The Business Summit continues throughout the day.
