Producers looking to take advantage of the clearer skies might consider doing some controlled burning.

"The moisture content is pretty good," shared Fire Chief, Dale Feser. "The temperatures are down so it keeps fires to a very manageable level. We still like to remind everyone to exercise extreme caution though when conducting controlled burns."

One of the first things you need to do is call into the Controlled Burn Line at 1-866-404-4911

"That way there is documentation of that occurring so we're not unnecessarily dispatched to that area."

Feser noted that producers in this area have been very careful and the fire department has not had to respond to controlled burns this fall.

"It's actually been very uneventful when it comes to farming community. Most of the people are diligent in what they are trying to accomplish and they're trying to work as safe as possible. Reporting to the Controlled Burn Line is a key thing. That way if a passerby thinks that maybe there is a fire and places a call to 911, at least the operators are able to cross-reference the coordinates and check to see if there are any controlled burns in the area prior to dispatching the fire department."

The information you will need to provide is your name and location, the location of the burn area, start and stop times and contact information. The phone line is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
