Municipalities and other eligible groups will be able to submit potential infrastructure projects for initial consideration under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

Warren Kaeding Minister of Government Relations,  Minister Responsible of Metis, First Nations, and Foriegn Affairs, "Strategic infrastructure investments are key to improving our citizens' quality of life and positioning our communities for growth," Kaeding continues, "Infrastructure funding can also go further when groups work together, working on regional cooperation, working on submitting projects that would involve a region, and its people."

"Some of the eligible groups that can get involved are Municipalities, First Nations and Metis Communities and Organizations, Public sector bodies, such as utility boards, Not-for-profit organizations, such as recreation or community associations and boards, and for-profit organizations, providing they are working with Indigenous entities and/or municipalities."

Initially, municipalities and eligible groups need to submit "expressions of interest" for their potential projects. "So what we are working with is an "expression of interest" that is going to be open Friday, March 15th. It's an online application kind of a two-pager that gives us an idea of the scope and size of the project, you know the parameters around the project. Then we are going to bring those in, its about a 5-6 week process I believe the end of April the expressions of interest application is going to close. And then through various ministries serving with government relations, we are going to collate a lot of the expressions of interest. Try to determine where the bulk of these applications are from, what they are going to involve, what stream they may fit into and ensure that they are approved, online and on track to work with the Federal government that they would be approving these types of projects."

Under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, the Government of Saskatchewan secured more than $896 million in federal funding over 10 years to support all types of eligible infrastructure projects in the province. Kaeding goes on to share the final steps, "And then we would move to the next stage and that would be a full application process, which would start sometime mid to late summer. And as we say we want shovels in the ground, backhoes in the ground, track hoes in the ground by bright early 2020."
