Those looking to save lives in Estevan today can do so at the Leisure Centre Multi-purpose Room today from 3 pm - 8 pm. That`s when the Canadian Blood Services is holding their Blood Donor Clinic in the city.

"We usually try to collect in Estevan, 120 units of blood," explains Katherine Wasylynka, with The Canadian Blood Services. "A unit is one of those bags of blood that you donate. And Estevan never fails us. People there are super generous and we always hit our target."

She goes on to say that giving blood is one of the most direct way that someone can give back to their community.

"A lot of people think that blood is just used in a car accident or a trauma situation but people need blood everyday for different things like cancer treatments, or if you're going in for a hip replacement or heart surgery. Blood is used in so many different ways and it's used every minute of every day."

In order to be able give blood, there are a number of requirements. A donor must be a minimum of 17 years. There is a eligibility quiz online to see if you are able to donate.

"If you do have a cold, if you're feeling ill, we recommend you wait until the next clinic but if you're feeling health and it is within your time period, please come in. We take walk-ins and we'd love you have you. Just make sure you have ID with your address and/or your picture, your driver's licence will do fine."

And as always, Wasylynka is sure that this donor clinic will be a successful event.

"Thanks to Estevan, they always support us so well and we certainly appreciate it."

Next Blood Donor Clinic will be held at the Estevan Leisure Centre  Multi-purpose room on October 17, 2017.
