A loophole found for farmers facing the Federally imposed Carbon Tax.

The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS) is calling on the federal Ministers of Finance and Environment to make immediate changes to how farm fuels are treated under the Greenhouse Gas Pricing Act that comes into effect for Saskatchewan on April 1, 2019.

After attending the Canadian Federation of Agriculture's AGM in Ottawa in early March. APAS President Todd Lewis discovered a loophole, "We're telling producers that they will need a certificate by April 1st, to have their fuel delivered to their farm without Carbon Tax being added to it. Get a hold of your bulk fuel dealer and get those details, its just one page farm its not too terribly bad. It's just another step you're going to need because if they deliver it after April 1st and you don't have that certificate the Carbon Tax will be on it."

"Card-lock fuel will have Carbon Tax added to it as it stands right now, the Legislation speaks to delivering to farm sites and card-locks aren't farm sites. We've been in contact with the Federal government and they are aware of the situation, but as it stands right now farmers will be charged on card-lock fuel after April 1st."

Lewis goes on to share why things need to change with the card-locks for farmers, "Producers that's their main source of fuel and spring is coming. And producers use thousands of liters of fuel during the spring seeding season, you know with 4 cents a liter that's going to add up for producers if they can't get their exemption on the card-lock fuel."
