Amid all of the action in the area of business in the community of 2017, the Estevan Chamber of Commerce saw a great year.

“2017 was extremely busy, it was the busiest year that I have had yet with the Chamber since I came on board in 2015. It was really successful, we had tremendous support from our membership," stated the Chamber's Executive Director, Jackie Wall ecstatically.

They started off the year with Farm Family Appreciation and then moved right into the Carbon Capture Summit.

“It was to raise awareness for the support that Sask Power puts on with the Boundary Dam Carbon Capture Project," she said.

“At the Ebex Awards this year, which is a bi-annual celebration, we celebrated a lot of businesses in the community. There were lot of nominations, and of course we announced the winners October 20th at our big Gala Celebration.”

With the recent Premier Luncheon, that brought all 5 candidates for the Leadership of the Province in town for a luncheon. “And they answered and addressed a few questions that we sent on ahead that they could prepare for and we just wanted their perspective on the issues that were really impacting Estevan and area.” She went on to mention it was a fantastic event.

Looking ahead to 2018, the Chamber will be starting with the Farm Family Appreciation at the end of March. They have an Annual General Meeting scheduled for March 14th. On the agenda they will be looking at hosting a Business Symposium for the end of October. They are laying the ground work to have all the details wrapped up and organized by April or May.

Wall mentioned, “It’s looking like a half-a-day Business Summit featuring business leaders within our community. And expertise in a lot of different areas, so if members are interested in providing us with areas that they would like for guest speakers, panels, or discussions we would appreciate that.”

Examples of ideas they are looking into would be business succession, social media, and e-commerce as it is one of the biggest topics in local businesses.
