Perry Bellegarde was re-elected as the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations on Wednesday, July 25th in Vancouver, BC and here in southeast Saskatchewan, reaction is coming in. 

"I think that we were blessed," shared Connie Big Eagle, Chief of Ocean Man First Nation. "First Nations people were blessed to have such good choices to choose from."

"I think we are in good hands with Perry back in."

She added that there were three men and two women on the ballot this year.

"They all had excellent resumes, excellent backgrounds."

Perry Bellegarde is originally from Little Black Bear First Nation in Saskatchewan and was a former chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

The other candidates included Russ Diabo from Quebec, Sheila North from Manitoba, Miles Richardson from British Columbia, and Katherine Whitecloud from Manitoba.
